23 January 1876, NEDA, 19 yrs old, of Newcastle, Lloyd's cont.1869, 8 yrs A1, wooden barque, 374 tons, 11 crew, Master J. Clarke, Owner M. Thompson, Newcastle, departed Dublin for Newcastle in ballast, wind S. by W. 10, stranded on Eilean-na-Tighe, one of the Shiant Isles, Hebrides.

NEDA, Official No.12,909, built Pallion, Co. Durham, 1857. Prudent courses were steered, and her position as discovered when close upon the island could only be accounted fro by a strong northerly current caused by the strong southerly gale. Master acquitted. Inquiry held at Newcastle.

Glasgow, 27th Jan., advices from Stornoway announce that large quantities of timber, consisting chiefly of hardwood logs, were coming ashore along the coast of Lewes [Lewis], and that it was reported that the hull of a large vessel had been seen off the island.

Stornoway, 28th Jan., 12.10 p.m., lot of hard wood logs come ashore 'next' side of this island marked 'B. B. & L.': Receiver of Wreck taken charge: no wreckage so far as known.

Stornoway, 29th Jan., 9.32 a.m., the NEDA (barq.), of Newcastle, Clark, from Dublin to Shields, in ballast, was totally wrecked on Shiant island, Lewis, on the 23rd Jan.: crew saved: spars, rigging, sails, boats, all destroyed: part materials may be saved. Telegram yesterday from Jno. McGregor, Underwriters' Room, Glasgow, identifying logs ashore reported yesterday.

North Uist, 31st Jan., 1.10 p.m., several logs of teak have come ashore here, with 'B. B. Co.' stamped on end, also the number and dimensions.

Tigheary (N. Uist), 12th Feb., a number of logs of teak, marked on ends 'B.B. & NCo.', some logs of pine, a log of elm, some deals, a round piece of timber and a piece of topmast have been picked up this month on the coasts of these islands.

(Classified as barque, in ballast; date of loss cited as 30 January 1876). This vessel stranded on a beach on the Shiant Islands. The hull was sold for 63 pounds.
