21 October 1880, J. B. BROWN, 14 yrs old, of USA, wooden brigantine, 393 tons, 10 crew, Master J. Foster, Owner J. Bain, Portland, Me., departed Christiania [Oslo] for Greenock, carrying timber, wind NE7, stranded, total loss, McIver Rock, Broad Bay, Lewis, Hebrides.

Stornoway, Dec. 2, J. B. BROWN, of Portland (Me.), Foster, from Christiania [Oslo] for Greenock, which went ashore here and was got off, is to be sold by auction. She is much damaged and strained. [Record received incomplete].

Stornoway, Oct. 21, 12.39 p.m., J.B.BROWN schooner, of Portland (Maine), Foster, from Christiania [Oslo] for Greenock (spars), went ashore this morning in Broad Bay: dangerous position.

Stornoway, Oct. 23, J.B.BROWN, of Portland (Maine), which was stranded in Broad Bay, 21st inst., is still on shore. She has been stripped of sails, rigging, and some spars: also stores landed. The cargo is being discharged, in view of getting her off next spring tides. She lays well on sand, and her hull is yet apparently uninjured.
