Full Description

NB13SE 8002 unlocated

Formerly entered as NB35NE 8015 (unlocated).

(No classification specified: cargo cited as cotton and sugar: date of loss cited as 19 January 1801). Sally: this vessel was wrecked on the West side of Lewis, near the Island of Kirkapast. Capt. Gallup. Registration: Glasgow.
(Date of loss cited as N57 33.5 W7 26.0).
I G Whittaker 1998.

The map sheet assigned to this record is essentially arbitrary, being derived from the place-name cited by Whittaker; this remains unverified. Kirkapast is possibly to be equated with Kirkabost or Circebost [name: NB 17 34], although similar place-names are common across Lewis and the Western Isles. Whittaker also describes this place as an island, rather than a settlement.
