31 December 1865, BERMUDA, new, ship, 677 tons, 20 crew, departed Greenock for Trinidad, carrying coal etc., stranded, total loss, 1 life lost, wind S10, Watersay [Vatersay], Island of Barra.

BERMUDA, owned by John Kerr, Esq., Greenock, wrecked on Sunday 31st December 1865, at about 2pm on the Island of Vatersay, close to the wreck of the HARMONY.
Statement by the Master, Alexander Coulter, to the Board of Trade, 31st August 1866. Wrecking in the Hebrides.

(Classified as wooden [full-rigged] ship, with cargo of coal, grain and bricks; date of loss cited as 31 December 1865). This vessel stranded on the south side of Sandray during her maiden voyage.

Larn and Larn suggest a location for the stranding on Vatersay but Whittaker locates it on the S side of Sandray [at NL c. 64 90]. The earliest available account (MS/829/68) indicates that the former location is to be preferred.
