8 January 1866, ARGONAUT, 1,078 tons, of Greenock, partial loss, departed Newfoundland for Port Glasgow, carrying timber, dismasted at Bornish, South Uist.

North Uist, 11th Jan. The ARGONAUT (ship), of Greenock, McKenzie, from St. John, N.B., with timber, went ashore on Bornish, South Uist, 9th Jan. She is dismasted and had been waterlogged for some time previously. The vessel must become a total wreck where she lies, but it is hoped that the cargo may be saved.

Greenock, 21st Feb. The ARGONAUT, McKenzie, from St. John, N.B., stranded at South Uist, 9th Jan., has parted in two at the main hatch. The after half had washed ashore, and the timber and deals were scattered on the beach. The fore part of the vessel still lies where she went ashore, and part of the [Record received incomplete].
