11 September 1866, a small boat which left North Uist for Monach, with two men on board, was caught in a gale, and the men becoming exhausted, the boat was drifting through dangerous breakers towards the Atlantic, when Neil Stewart and eight other fishermen of Monach, manned a boat belonging to the FORM:er, and succeeded in bringing the boat and men safely to shore. Awards granted out of the Mercantile Marine Fund: Neil Stewart: £1 and 10s for damage to his boat: eight other fishermen of the Island of Monach, £1 each.
