October 1867, a report having been current that shipwrecked people were on the rocks at Hasker [Hyskier], situated about 10 miles off the Island of North Uist, Hebrides, a light thereon having been seen for two successive nights, Alexander Mann and his crew volunteered to proceed to their assistance, notwithstanding the heavy sea that was running, but on their approach to the rocks no trace of human beings was found. Awards granted out of the Mercantile Marine Fund: Alexander Mann, Roderick Macaulay, A. McLellan, L. McLellan, J. McDouglas, A. McIsaac: £5 to be divided amongst them.
