Stornoway, 2nd Feb., the EOTHEN (not ESTHER, as before reported) (brig), Brown, from Riga, with timber, which left this port, 24th Jan., for Belfast, struck on a sunken rock at the Island of Cana [Canna], during a gale, 30th Jan., became waterlogged and drove down to this harbour, where she again struck: the crew, with the exception of the mate, who remained on board until daylight, left the vessel: she was brought into the harbour this morning by a tug.

Stornoway, 5th Feb., the EOTHEN, Brown, from Riga, which was brought in here, 2nd Feb., after having been aground, has lost rudder: extent of damage otherwise not yet ascertained.

Stornoway, 8th Feb., the EOTHEN, Brown, from Riga, which was brought in here, 2nd Feb., after grounding, is still lying here, waterlogged, and is seriously damaged: her keel and stern post are apparently broken.

NMRS, MS/829/69 (no. 3739).

The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), presumably on account of her successful recovery. Goat Island is not noted as such on the 1997 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map.
