Full Description
NF76NW 8004 unlocated
NLO: Paible [name: NF 73 68].
Greenock, 12th Nov., the stern of a longboat, painted white, with the name "ALLANSHAW, Glasgow", has been washed ashore at Pable [Paible], North Uist, Hebrides. The rudder of a boat, with tiller on it has also been washed ashore. [The ALLANSHAW, Ogilvie, sailed from the Tail of the Bank, 7th Oct., for Melbourne].
Source: Shipping Intelligence, LL, No. 18,897, London, Saturday November 14 1874.
North Uist, 16th Nov., a ship's gangway, 12 feet long, was picked up, 6th Nov., at the same place as the boat's stern, marked "ALLANSHAW". [Record received incomplete].
NMRS, MS/829/70 (no. 4183).
The map sheet and quasi-administrative area assigned to this record are arbitrary, being derived from the recorded location of discovery of wreckage. The vessel probably foundered out at sea, beyond Scottish waters.
Neither the classification nor the cargo of this vessel are apparently recorded, but she was presumably of considerable size. Her loss is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998).
