NLO: Butt of Lewis [name: NB 519 665].

Glasgow, 16th Apl., advices from Stornoway state that a handspike with the name "LOCH EARN" has been picked up near the Butt of Lewis, and that a buoy marked "FEDE" has been cast ashore on the Lewis coast.
Source: Shipping Intelligence, LL, No. 18,717, London, Saturday April 18 1874.
NMRS, MS/829/70 (no. 4111).

The map sheet assigned to this record is arbitrary, being derived solely from the location of discovery of the handspike. It is unclear whether the parent vessel was lost (if at all) in the Atlantic or within the North Minch. The loss may have occurred beyond Scottish waters.
The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998).
Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 30 June 2004.
