Full Description

The munitions store is a rectangular sand and cement rendered building set into the southwestern slopes of Oiseval close to the cliff edge, on Hirta. It was constructed in 1918 to store munitions for the nearby gun-emplacement, which formed the coastal defences for the last month or so of the First World War following a German U-boat attach in May 1918. The building does not appear to have been altered extensively since its construction apart from the removal of the interior ammunition racks. Since then it appears to have been used as a generala store, apart from a short period when it was used as a dark room
