Full Description
On the east bank of the river runs a section of dry stone revetment wall, measuring 7m in length. It is built of flat slabs of Lewisian Gneiss, and includes 3-4 larger sandstone cobbles. It is exposed to a width of 1m at the wall head, before it is covered with ruft, although it probably does not extend much further into the slope of the bank. I tmay face a rock outcrop given that there are exposed outcrops to the north. It is built to a height of 1.5m at highest and 0.8m at its lower southern end. The wall is not marked on any map, and it is difficult to give an assessment of its age or a reason for its construction. It is assumed to be a retaining wall and given the position of it within a meander of the river, it may be acting as a repair for previous erosion. The presesnce of horizontal water mills along the river would created a need to maintain all parts of the river system
