A watching brief was carried out in the area of this site, on the insertion of a new water main. Five depositional sequences were recorded. Little damage was done to the steading except a cut through its northern boundary dyke. A detailed description of the steading records a stone boundary dyke starting at the fence line on the west and running to the east on the north side of the yard. It runs for 28m before turning towards the southeast for 5m where it meets up with the northwest corner of the main structure. The stone dyke has a consistent width of 0.9m.
The main structure is orientated northeast-southwest with a total length of 21m and a dividing wall that bisecte it into two halves at 9m from the north-eastern end. The general width of the walls was 1m, standing from 0.15m up to 1.5m high. The south-eastern wall of the northeastern half is mostly non-existent.
The southwestern half has a midpoint doorway opening on the southeastern side 1.1m wide. Two discontinuous dividing walls were present, 3m and 2m long starting on the northwestern wall at 14m and 16.5m respectively from the north-eastern end of the whole structure.
An L-shaped elbow extends from the south-western corner of the main structure and extends from the wall on the same orientation for 2m before taking a right angle turn and continuing for 6.5m to the northwest.
A smaller structure oirentated with the main structure was present to the we/northwest of the main structure. This had rounded corners and a general length of 6.75m, width of 5m. An opening 0.85m wide is on the south side next to the WNW wall.
On the south side of the steading area is a revetment bank with a low linear mound on top. The bank is oriented and parallels the stone dyke that encloses the north side. Another revetment bank extends form the western end of this mounded bank and runs northwesst for 13m. No mound was present on this revetment.
