Full Description

4: NB 32861 21788. filed survey revealed an upstanding blackhouse with the corrugated roof surviving but slightly damaged by the January 2005 storm, with the original wooden frame of the thatched roof exposed below the area of roof that had been damaged. On the S end of the rectangular structure, there were two denuded stone yards present that were partially turfed over. All of these features were sited at the eastern end of a three sided enclosure that had well defined rig and furrow aligned SW-NE present within it. This enclosure is indicated on all of the OS maps from the 1st edition to the present coverage. The blackhouse is roofed on aerial photographs (1946 CPE/Scot/UK 189 no. 1064) taken in 1946.
