Full Description
17: NB 29935 21040. A large, roughly U shaped, turf covered stone built enclosure oriented E- " was noted during field survey and from all aerial photographs taken since 1946. Not shown on the 1st ed. Map, the enclosure does however appear on the 1899 2nd ed OS map. Field surve revealed the further presence of the turf covered lower courses of a rectangular structure measuring approximately 16m by 5m incorporated into the SE corner and aligned along the southerly extent of the enclosure (NGR: NB 29937 21013). Also along this part of the enclosure are a further four compartments proably relict yards or byres. Measuring turf covered walls of these structures are upstandint to a height of up to 0.5m in places. Within the interior of the enclosure there were traces of rig and furrow aligned WSW - ENE and respecting the alignment of the enclosure.
