Full Description
site 03 (NF 79336 28729) is a rectangular building, approx. 11.2m xy 4.8m externally, with its long axis orientate north-west/wouth-east. It has two opposing entrances, one in each long wall, towards the southern end of the building. The walls are preserved up to a height of 1.1metres, and are constructed of large, randomly coursed blocks. The structure has rounded external corners and the walls are battered on the outside. The width of the walls is approximately 1.2m at the top, although it was not possible to measure the base of the walls due to the growth of vegetation. The site is known locally as 'Tota Fherchar', and is a ruined blackhouse. Whilst the interior was obscured by vegetation, there was no evidence for chimneys or fireplaces in th end walls, suggesting that the dwelling was abandoned before the improvement of blackhouses in the mid 19th century.
