Full Description

Site 05 (NF 79206 28626) is a small rectangular building, approximately 5.2 x 3.6m, with its long axis oriented north-east/south-west. The location of the entrance was unclear, although it possibly lay at the east end of the south-east wall. The walls were preserved up to a height of 1.2m, and are constructed of randomly coursed, undressed stone. Thje walls are battered externally, with square corners. The width of the walls is approximatley 0.8m at the top, although it was not possible to measure the base of the walls due to the growth of vegetation, which also obscured the interior of the building. It is not possible to offer an interpretation of the nature of the structure, although the style of construction suggests that it is broadly contemporary with the blackhouse (smr 14373).
