45: Frobost, South Uist, NF 7287 2570
40cm diameter x 3m high, 0.5m+ depth of deposits, surveyed June 1995, pasture but large blow-out.
Scarce ?MIA pottery. Bone and shell.
A large settlement mound suffering damage from sheep scrape on north side, wind erosion in the centre and damage from unrecorded digging (hole 1m x 0.8m and 0.5m deep) wihtin large blow-out in the middle. Deep midden layers exposed in the hole.
Parker Pearson & Sharples
NF 72 25 On Frobost machair there are three large settlement mounds (Sites 45, 46 and 47). Site 45 has been damaged by quarrying and has produced later Early Iron Age pottery.
