Full Description

Site 5
Garden
A small enclosure is formed by drystone walling to a height of 1.8m and has a circa 30m2 footprint, and nestles on a small terrace under the cliffs to the east of the south end of Loch a Bhaile. It is shown on the 2nd edition OS but not the first, making it no older than 1854.
There is a local story that a woman and child are buried in the vicinity, some say in the enclosure, in unmarked graves.
McHardy 2007,6
NB The meaning of the Gaelic in the local story has been changed in the telling to protect the subject of the story. Story abridged here also to protect personal details RCB 27/03/08

This feature does not appear on any of the above mentioned maps as it appaers to day; that is a square enclosure. The 1st , 2nd ed 6" OS & the 25" all show a much smaller earlier structure on this site, with a rectangular / sub rectangular plan.
