Ath/corn drying kiln
A small, unroofed structure… Oval in plan, it has drystone gneiss walls standint up to 1.8m in places, with quite a distinct batter to the outside. It is situated on the top of a small rocky ridge and measures 6 x 7m, resembling a blackhouse but much smaller. It may have originally had an internal dividing wall and other features although the evidence has been obscured when the building was partly re-built in a second phase of use, creating regular, vertical drystone walls which form a little square room within the original oval.
Local informants relate that the building was originally a corn drying kiln, one of three operating in the vaillage before the task was centralised to the neighbouring village of Breasclete some time in the 19th century.
