Full Description

A desk-based assessment and walkover survey was conducted to assess the potential impacts upon the Archaeology and Cultural Heritage resulting form the proposed upgrading of pipework from the treatment works to the reservoir at Loch Mor a Starr, following a dismantled tramline, the route of which is marked on the modern 1:50 000 Ordnance Survey map.
Survey results did not detect any remaining upstanding post-medieval structures, but the history fo the tram line was also researched and was dated back to first appearing on the 1946 Aerial photographs. It is believed that the tramline was built to aid in the construction and the maintentance of the reservoir and as such is still considered to be historically significant as evidence of the islands development during 20th century.
