Full Description

A stone lined cist visible in an eroding compact terrace of sand along the edge of an intermittant river. The layer of sand is buried under the large machair dune system that dominates this area. The fill of this feature was a variety of dark stained sand layers , in contrast to the surrounding sterile white compact sand into which this feature had been inserted. Along one edge of the fill a collection of limpet shells were visible, very occaissional charcoal flecks were also identified in the base fills.
Reported to HES for call off contract.
K.Murphy (Archaeologist CnES) 5th June 2019

The results from further investigation and post-excavation analysis demonstrated that no human remains were present in this stone lined feature and that that the fill was consistent with midden material. C14 dates indicated that the pit was infilled in the Early Bronze Age.
