Full Description

A large overgrown grass covered irregular mound situated in an exposed area of moorland, dimensions 33m x 17m. This location for the size of this feature appears unusual given that it is surrounded by deep peatlands. The later phases of activity on this site are seen as four irregular concave depressions on the mound with a possible enclosure at its northern extent. Occasional stones are visible and hint at turf and stone construction.
The first ed 6" OS map (1849) shows a single square structure at this location, annotated Airidh an Taillear (in ruins).

The size of this feature and its location on the moor hint that its origins may have some considerable time depth. The later phases of activity masking an earlier feature, in all likelihood a neolithic burial mound.
Site proposed for scheduling to HES.
