Full Description
Group of shieling huts adjacent to the Allt Bholagair. There are two main bothies each with a subsidiary cell, a boulder group which might have been employed as a produce storage 'clamp' and what appears to be a peripheral enclosure wall, perhaps as a precaution against flooding during spates. The southern group has a sub-circular main chamber 3-4m diameter with wall heights up to about a metre. The subsidiary chamber is a single course of stone , probably as a foundation for a turf walled structure also sub-circular about 2m diameter.
The northern group are built on and into a large subcircular mound, around 1.2 metres above the surrounding hinterland, which has substantial amounts of stonework eroding from the surface. The main chamber is also about 3-4m diameter and 1m height. It has a large number of flattish stones across most of the visible floor, possibly tumbled from a collapsed part of fully corbelled roof. The secondary chamber also is about 2m diameter with one wall section 1.6 metres in height. It would appear that the structures in this northern group represent the last phase of activity on this mound.
