Full Description

Earthen ware salt glazed ceramic base and rim sherds probably from the same vessel, along with other corroded 'fe' objects, recovered from the tidal zone. It was noted that the finds were associated with an older sand surface.
This seems an unusual place to find 18th - early 19th century pottery of this type. These finds would seem to indicate either a midden deposit (relating to the pre-crofting settlement, located some distance to the south). It is of note that this area did not see any significant settlement again until the early 20th century. Alternatively these finds may indicate deposits associated with a wreck.
Recommended to report finds to TT.
