Full Description

Archaeological mitigation for the construction of a new electricty sub station by SSEN, comprising of monitoring , peat survey and peat core dating.
Monitoring did not encounter any archaeological deposits, however the peat depth across the site ranged from 1 - 6m. Palaeoenvironmental deposits were clearly present and suitible areas for core sampling identified. A limited assessement of the pollen preservation was made, ranging from well to poorly preserved. Radiocarbon dates returned dates of 9466 BP (Mesolithic), 3524 BP (Bronze Age) & 1089 BP (Medieval) .
