Full Description

The corroded remains of an anchor windlass, lieing partially buried in stoney beach deposits of the tidal zone and visible due to the beach sand being moved off in stormy weather. This object comprises of a cast iron splay ended hollow cylinder, one end shows the remnants of gear teeth and was constructed with an inner and outer body. Much of the outer body, above the level of the beach has been destroyed. The inner part of the cylinder has three graduations, lessening in width away from the gear teeth. Approxmate dimensions are 2m length x 0.7m width. This object is likely related to a shipwreck and further study may be able narrow down a date range, through construction technique.
