Full Description

Site of a former settlement, prior to being cleared (circa 1830); large areas of lazy bed cultivation are visible to the north, south and west . Extant remains seen on current AP's were built by the estate and show much of what is represented on the 6" 1st ed Ordnance Survey sheet 1853. This comprises of four rectangular structures, with three attached enclosures, one of which incorparates a sheep fank. The long house located centraly (aligned nnw/ sse) was used as the game keepers house and garden and was in use in to the 1980's (pers comms - I.Mackenzie). A stone built jetty appears to be a later addition. Towards the southern end of the bay the map sheet indicates a ruin and an area marked 'Graves'; aerial photos show a possible settlement mound at this location. This site would benefit from a detailed survey.
