Full Description
An oval stone built structure located on a small island separated by the sea and steep cliffs. The structure appears to be within an enclosing dyke that demarcates the grassy area of the island. Identified on current AP's, not identified on any mapping.

Site visited at low spring tides. The drystone oval structure in an exposed location on a heavily overgrown flattish grassy area. It aligned NW /SE with a north facing entrance in the NW corner. The building comprises of irregular coarsed stone (roughly 4 coarses high), the entrance is notible as it it has an apparent stone pillar to one side, possibly to strengthen the doorway. This stands five coarses above the rest of the structures wall height. Internally the surface is level and no evidence of stone tumble was identified. Externally there is a variation in the vegitation around the structure with that of the noticibly flatter, open area to the south east. The building dimensions externally are 6m x 4m. Stone was noted in the grass on the southwest side of the building and this is considered tumble for the wall on this side. On the east side of the building there are a number of upright stones apparently set into the ground, however there purpose was not identified. The lack of internal tumble would suggest a roof of lighter construction springing off the wallheads, such timber and turf. This is an unusual site, it is difficult to access and always appears to have been so, possible uses could be some sort of hermitage or place of exile? Potentially of Medieval date.
