Full Description
Farmstead comprising of well preserved, extensive drystone ruins of enclosures and byres. An earlier phase of the farmstaed is visible beyond the later boundary wall and modern fence line on the western boundary; ruins are also visible to the northeast of the complex. A relitively modern occupied house is located on the eastern side. The earlier farmstead is represented by stone and grass covered rectangular ruins that probably represent either blackhouse style structures or byres. The western most of these was a corndrying kiln.
The 6" 1st ed Ordnance Survey map sheet (1876) indicates the farmstaed has reduced in size with some buildings being abandoned. Two buildings are shown roofed with several enclosures, other unroofed structures are also shown. The map sheet also depicts croft boundaries and the drystone townland boundary at its western extent. Reids map of 1799, indicates earlier precrofting settlement in this area.
