Full Description

Wreck of a lifeboat from the Arandora Star, sitting in the beach, bow & stern aligned perpendiculer to the shore. Usually buried in the sand, occaissionally appearing. Wooden construction with carving to bow /stern post area '86 PERSONS'. This wreck appears in relitively good condition with capping and gunwhale inplace, northern end of the boat has suffered worse with upper areas eroding away. Description based on images taken circa 2005.
The Arandora Star was on passage from Liverpool to St Johns, Newfoundland carrying Italien interees and German POW's. She was tordedoed by U-47, west of Bloody Foreland Piont, Co Donegal on the 2nd July 1940.
