Full Description

NA10SW 1 1023 0036.

NA 1023 0036. On the promontory, Ard Uachdarachd, below the summit of Conachair, are at least 5 scooped 'platforms' each measuring approximately 6m x 4.0m, and cut into the slope at a depth of 1 - 1.2m. Each platform is lacking stonework on the perimeter, but as this is notably an area of rich rough grazing pasture free of stones, and the hefting dyke adjacent to the site has been robbed of all stones, it may be that the area has been deliberately cleared of stones during the latter period of occupation of the island. If the platforms are indeed the sites of huts, they pre-date the hefting dyke as it isolates one platform from the rest. The ground surface here is prone to subsidence, and this should be reflected upon; but the regularity of the 'scoops', makes the site worth further investigation. Time did not permit the planning of these 'platforms'.
Visited by OS (J L D) 11 August 1967.

SAM 3241

Excluded from schedule, 25 October 2001, as doubtful whether these features are hut platforms.
