Full Description

NB00SW 2 0414 0046.

(NB 0411 0044) Dun Chlach (NR).
OS 6"map, Inverness-shire, 2nd ed., (1903)

Dun Chlach was called a fort by the local people, but nothing definite was known about it, and it had the appearance of a cairn - a small hillock of sand and small round boulder stones (Name Book 1878). However, when the site was visited in 1914, nothing remained; the stones had either been removed or had been covered by blown sand (RCAHMS 1928). Name Book 1878; RCAHMS 1928.

No trace.
Visited by OS (R L) 7 July 1969.

NB00SW13 c. 0422 0044

Oblique aerial photographs (E95134-35PO) have been lodged in the NMRS purporting to identify the location of a possible midden recorded during aerial survey. No midden is visible on the photographs, but there are several sand blows and evidence of erosion on this coastal promontory. The possible cairn located on this promontory (NB00SW 2) is also not visible.
