Full Description

NB01SW 1 0001 1456.
(Area : NB 002 146) There are at least six cairns here, on the peninsula of Meilein, near to and overlooking the sea. 'They are nearly all at the end of spurs or ridges running seaward from the highest point to the north of which they lie.'
Information contained in letter from C F Tebbutt to OS 3 October 1954.

Apart from the collapsed remains of two small rectangular shelters at about NA 9982 1408 and NA 9989 1420, in positions similar to those described by Tebbutt, there is only one cairn-like structure on this headland, at NB 0001 1456. It is a low circular mound of stones, partly turf-covered, measuring c. 6.0m in diameter and 0.3m in maximum height. Although surrounded by lazy-bed cultivation it does not appear to be a clearance heap, and its shape, size, and position in a saddle with good views to the NE and SW, suggest that it is a cairn.
Visited by OS (A A) 4 July 1969.
