A township comprising seven unroofed buildings, three enclosures and a head-dyke is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire, Island of Harris 1881, sheet x). Thirteen unroofed buildings and some field walls are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1973).
Information from RCAHMS (SAH) 21 February 1997

Ths settlement is depicted on Balds 1805 map, annotated 'Hiltishness; it shows six buildings on the west side of the bay enclosed within a head dyke. The ruins of this settlement are centred around byrne and are well preserved. They comprise of an interesting group of large blackhouse type structures with internal divisions, enclosures and other stone built structures close by, a small amount of later modification to one or two buildings maybe in evidence. The surrounding hillsides around the bay are characterised by extensive cultivation ridging. No features associated with fishing were noticed.
This is a pre-crofting township. This site would benefit from an archaeological survey.
