Full Description

NB24NE 4 2880 4890.

(NB 288 489) A recently dug grave at Teampull Eion (NB24NE 3 - ? 15th cent. church) revealed "kitchen-middens in the burying ground and on the narrow shelf between the enclosing wall and the eroded face above the sea-shore.
These contain food reguse and numerous fragments of pottery, as well as maany stones, probably the remains of hut circles. There are many fine fractured pot-boilers about, and a hammer-stone and a small stone disc (potlid ?) were also turned up".
RCAHMS 1928, visited 29 June 1914.

Numerous fragments of pottery and objects of stone, horn, bone, including a weaving comb of cetacean bone (PSAS 1925) and a stone axe and barbed and tanged arrowhead (PSAS 1935), from the kitchen-midden at Bragor, have been given to the NMAS by Murdo Morrison, Corresponding Member, Bragor.
Proc Soc Antiq Scot 1915; 1917; 1921; 1924; 1935; 1950.

Kitchen-midden material and indeterminate traces of walling can be seen immediately outside the graveyard wall, as described, but there are no other traces of settlement. The midden centred at NB 2880 4890, covers a large area and contains shells, bones and large quantities of potsherds, some coarse broch-type ware and some much finer and roughly decorated with herringbone and lattice designs. Mr Morrison is now dead, and his relatives can offer no further information.
Visited by OS (R L) 17 june 1969.
