Full Description
NB24NW 3 2357 4610.
There is a 'rectangular dwelling of good size, built on an island on a loch above Dalebeg. This must have been placed there for defence, as the island is too small to be of use either for pasture land or agricultural, so that the building must surely be some centuries old'. (The loch referred to is presumably Loch Raoinavat NB 237 460)
W A Smith 1875.
The rectangular building is on a natural island at NB 2357 4610, and measures internally c 9.0m N-S by 5.0m transversely, with a smaller structure attached to the N end. The walls are obscured by dense vegetation and it is no longer possible to determine its age or purpose. Visited by OS (N K B) 8 July 1969.
Two unroofed buildings are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Island of Lewis, Ross-shire 1853, sheet 12), but they are not shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1974).
Information from RCAHMS (AKK) 18 September 1997.
