Full Description

NB35SE 11 3793 5497.

In the cliff face at NB 3793 5497, there is a layer of midden material about 1 foot below the present ground level, containing shells, animal bones and pottery sherds, the latter classified by Stevenson (R B K Stevenson {NMAS}) as Iron Age 'bead-rim' ware. There are traces of rough walling protruding through the cliff indicative of a habitation site. Visited by OS (N K B) 20 June 1969.

Midden noted on coastal erosion assessment, 1997

Site visit July 1999, eroding, shell midden, structures. Watch. MML

SABS13: This site extends from the north end of Mol Eire, where the shingle beach meets the track along the cliff top, around the cliff line to the northwest and the Scheduled area around Teampall Pheadair.
Pottery, burnt bone and shell midden were all noted, eroding in from the cliff section, eg at points NB 37978 54858 and NB 37965 54960. Walling is still present in the section at NB 37971 54952, where it is right at the cliff edge and being actively eroded. At the north extent of this site, the sea is now eroding in behind the cliff section in a small geo at NB 37953 54955, and further pressure on this site in the near future is inevitable.
This site is part of, and possibly underlies, a larger suite of remains extending inland from the coast at the north side of Mol Eire, and centered on Teampall Pheadar.
