(NB 4035 2430) Dunan (NR) (Site of)
OS 6"map, Ross-shire, 2nd ed., (1899)

Dunan or Doonan (Name Book 1850) - a small, low point, fortified by a wall which separates it from the mainland. The enclosed area, surrounded by the sea on three sides, is a stony heap, 30ft in height.
This may be the "Dun Feiltinish' in Lochs, listed by Macphail.
Name Book 1850; F W L Thomas 1890; RCAHMS 1928.

All that remains of Dunan is an amorphous turf-covered stony mound on the highest point of a small promontory. There are slight traces of a wall which has occupied the top of the low cliff around the edge of the promontory, but it is almost completely eroded away. The N arc has been destroyed by a modern building.
Insufficient remains for classification.
Visited by OS (N K B) 23 June 1969.
