(NB 545 480) Cladh Mhicheil (NAT)

Church of St Michael in "Tollosta' - listed.

"Michael's Church Yard", apparently ancient and with several rough memorial stones. Traditionally the site of a "temple", but no trace remains.
Name Book 1852.

Listed under "sites".
RCAHMS 1928.

The tradition of the church is still known locally. It is believed to have stood at approximately NB 5440 4801, near the N corner of the present fenced cemetery, which is still in use, but the area is covered with blown sand and there is no trace of it nor of the old graveyard wall, although many rough, weathered gravestones still survive.
The name 'Cladh Mchicheil' is still known, applying to the old burial ground.
Visited by OS (A A) 14 June 1969.
