Full Description
NF86NW 27 8139 6939 and 8132 6942
(NF 8139 6942) Tobar Chuithairigh (Chuithairidh on earlier editions of OS maps) is situated on the S-facing slope of Beinn na h-Aire, some 60m OD. According to the Name Book, this well was supposed to cure toothache, being visited by people from all parts of the island. It is called Tobar an Deideidh by Beveridge. The OS name would suggest that it was associated with a shieling, and a small unroofed building and associated yard are shown on OS 1:10,000 map, 1971 at NF 8130 6939, c. 90m W of the well.
Name Book, Inverness-shire (Hebrides); E Beveridge 1911
(NF 8132 6942) An unroofed shieling-hut is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire, Hebrides, North Uist etc. 1881, sheet xxxiv)and on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1972) where it is shown with an attached enclosure.
