Fraser's map (fig.1) shows that the name Abhainn Husabost is locally applied to a short stream flowing N to the sea from Loch Mhic Coan. This seems to derive from Old Norse 'husbolstadr': house-stead. Beveridge noted the existence of Sgeir Husabost, a skerry on the W shore of Illeray. This evidence suggests that Husabost was located approximately on the present site of Teanamachar (NF777 619), although the removal of arable ground by sea erosion is a factor which may have to be taken into account.
