NF19NW 16 1010 9932.

(NF 1010 9932) The only mortar (for bruising grain with a wooden pestle) on St Kilda was standing oposite cottage No.8 when Mathieson surveyed the island in the early 1920's. The stone is nearly 2ft high and 1ft 6ns across.

This mortar is now housed in Cottage No.1 together with other relics (none of apparent archaeological interest) which are to form a Museum under the care of the National Trust of Scotland.
