Full Description

(NF 6932 0316) Dun (NR)
OS 6"map, Inverness-shire, 2nd ed., (1903)

A dun, situated in Loch an Duin. The external diameter of the structure is 49 ft with an outer wall 3 1/2 ft thick and slight indications of a gallery suggesting the possibility of its being a broch (RCAHMS 1928). Scott notes that the internal diameter is 25ft. A causeway 55ft long and 7ft broad connects to a small promontory on the east side of the loch. Noted as a crannog (A Young 1958 and F O Blundell 1913)
RCAHMS 1928, visited 7 June 1915; L Scott 1947; A A MacGregor 1949; A Young 1958; F O Blundell 1913.

All that is visible of this feature is a small pile of stones 0.5m high and c. 2.0m long, above the present waterlevel of Loch an Duin. No trace of the causeway could be found as the level of the loch has been raised by the construction of a dam at its E end.
Visited by OS (R B) 16 May 1965.

L33 (NF694032) Remains of thick-walled circular building, c. 15 m diam., wall standing to three or four courses on north-west, with submerged causeway to shore. Broch? Now submerged in Loch an Duin reservoir, recorded by RCHAMS (1928: 131, No. 445).
