Full Description
NF67SE 1 centred on 6900 7050.
There is a cross-shaped stone in the Row, opposite St Mary's Church (NF 707 705), about 5 ft high: the natives call it the Water-Cross, it being the custom to erect this sort of cross to procure rain. (M Martin 1934) 'Row' is clearly the Gaelic 'rubha' or 'point', referring to Ard an Runair (NF 693 706), exactly opposite Kilmuir churchyard, and a mile to the west. (E Beveridge 1911)
E Beveridge 1911; M Martin 1934.
Area: NF 6900 7050. No further information was found regarding this cross. Local enquiries, however, localised the name 'the Row' to the SW corner of Ard an Runair, in the area of Loch a' Roe.
Visited by OS (W D J) 19 June 1965.
