Full Description

NF71NW 6 7464 1522.

(NF 7464 1522) Dun (OE)(Site of)
OS 6"map, Inverness-shire, 2nd ed., (1904)

A small promontory on the eastern shore of Loch an Duin is the site of a dun which, in 1915, had been entirely cleared away.
RCAHMS 1928.

There is no trace of a dun at the published site.
Visited by OS (R B) 10 May 1965.

73: Smerclete, NF 7463 1525
c.20m diameter, 2-3m depth of deposits, surveyed June 1995, pasture.
No pottery. No finds. Recorded as a dun in Loch an Duin. Presumably this was an island broch since it seems to have been circular with a steep profile. Fairly small stones (30-40cm) have been re-used in a small building. Otherwise there is no indication of its original character. There is no trace of a causeway.
