Full Description

NF72NW 10 7483 2587.

(NF 7483 2587) The scanty remains of a dun, about 43ft in diameter, occupy almost the whole area of an islet, near the west side of Loch Cnoc a Bhuidhe, Mingary, South Uist. Within the dun are the remains of a rectangular building, probably of later date, 16ft N-S by 13ft E-W, within walls 5ft thick and rising, in 1914, to about 3ft. An S-shaped causeway, 80 yards long and 4-6ft broad, connects the island to a narrow promontory on the north shore.
RCAHMS 1928.

The dun is generally as described above. Only its outer perimeter can be traced with any accuracy, the remains of the later building within obscuring the remainder.
Surveyed at 1/2500.
Visited by OS (W D J) 10 May 1965.
