Full Description

NF72NW 12 centred 725 291.

A narrow bone point, found in a midden between Loch Borenish and the shore, South Uist, was presented to the NMAS by Leslie Alcock, Brasenose College, Oxford.

Visited by OS (W D J) 9 May 1965.

27. Kildonan, South Uist. NF 7269 2898.
c.15 m diameter, 0.8m+ depth of deposits. Surveyed June 1994. Land in cultivation. Scarce Viking Age pottery (base sherd and grass-impressed). Bone and shell. One sherd has light grass impressions. This is probably the site in RCAHMS records known as Sligeanach Deas, Bornish NF 728 291 Midden; bone point.

NF 7269 2898 The occupation deposits at this location lay immediately behind a natural shell sand mound. The excavation of a single trench fortuitously exposed the top of a roundhouse wall, and the associated pottery suggests it is a wheelhouse.
