NF72NW 17.01 centred on 7414 2544

North Frobost. An extensive area of depopulation now reoccupied by modern crofts. The area is centred on NF 7414 2544 and contains the remains and foundations of approx. thirty buildings with associated enclosures. The buildings vary in size from c 4.0m x 5.0m to c 24.0m x 5.5m with walls up to c 2.0m high. The date of depopulation was about 1845, according to the Clerk to South Uist District Council.

Two roofed, fifty-four unroofed buildings, several enclosures and a head-dyke are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire, Hebrides, South Uist 1881, sheet lv). Fourteen roofed, twenty-one unroofed buildings, several enclosures and a head-dyke are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1971).
