The remains of a dun occupy an islet near the centre of Loch an Duin, Garryheillie, South Uist. Most of the stones have been removed, but a truncated, conical mound, about 7ft above the level of the loch, remains. RCAHMS 1928.
The remains of a dun, almost circular on plan, comprising a tumble of stones,about 2.5m inheight, in which the inner and outer facing stones of a wall 3.5m wide are visible in places, giving an inner diameter of about 10m. The entrance was probably in the W.
Several drystone walls attached to and overlying the dun are later features.
Surveyed at 1/2500.
Visited by OS (R D) 8 May 1965.
